Rough Ryder’s “Coal Miner” Stockman is a traditional pocket knife black jigged bone handles. The handles also feature nickel silver bolsters, a Rough Rider shield, and brass pins and liners.

The “Coal Miner” Stockman has three mirror polished 440A stainless steel blades. The master blade is a clip point and the knife also features a pen and sheepsfoot blade. The master blade also has a “Coal Miner” text etching. The blades each open with a match strike pull. Unlike a standard nail nick or long pull, a match strike pull has serrations inside the groove of the pull. These serrations allow you to strike a match with your knife. The blade uses the half stops and slip joints found in traditional pocketknives. The handles of this knife are made with bone, which is a natural material and prone to cracking. Therefore, some knives may have cracks near the pins or bolster.

This knife is a stockman style knife. The stockman pattern originated in the 1880s, and had a spear point master blade. In 1900 the master blade became a clip point. The other blades are a sheepsfoot and spey. The clip point is best suited to everyday tasks like cutting food, the sheepsfoot for push cutting or sawing, and the spey for cutting flesh.

The “Coal Miner” Stockman is a perfect knife for a collector, or for use as an everyday carry. With its black jigged bone handle and contrasting shield and bolsters, this knife is a beautiful piece. Still, it makes for a strong and sturdy knife at a great price.
